The freest piece on the board is a queen

In chess, the queen is the only piece that moves freely in every direction: forward, back, diagonally, from one end of the board to the other. She’s the most powerful piece in the game. And she’s a woman. (In Spanish, the queen is called la dama: the lady.)

Dama Libre (“free queen”) is a women’s chess club born in Envigado and open to the whole Aburrá Valley. It’s for the woman who has never moved a piece and for the one who already competes. You come here to think out loud, to make mistakes without fear and to celebrate every move with other women.

So Free and Dama Libre are allies: we share the belief that a free woman decides her own move. That’s why we created a capsule of handmade, chess-inspired pieces together.
